Songs and Dances of Death

Friday 22nd March, 2013

Great Western Arcade | 13:00 - 16:00

Over the course of three weeks Birmingham Opera Company are presenting a series of pop-up performances around the city, taking Mussorgsky's song cycle to all kinds of unexpected places. This special Flatpack edition has an appropriately cinematic edge...

1pm: Songs and Dances of Death (45 mins) One singer, one pianist, four songs. Accompanying the Mussorgsky performance will be two short pinscreen animations by Alexeiff and Parker, both adapted from the composer's work.

3pm: A Visit to the United Nations (35 mins) Video document of a recent performance during the Model United Nations held at Joseph Chamberlain College, convening over 200 youth delegates from across the nation. Filmed by Birmingham Opera Company volunteers trained with the support of BBC Birmingham. Also includes another chance to see the two Alexeieff and Parker shorts.

Places for both events are strictly limited, and will be allocated on a first-come-first-serve basis. The 1pm event will be filmed.
