Dir: Sean Martin & Louise Milne
UK 2009, 60 mins
This new documentary by Sean Martin and Louise Milne is a portrait of one-of-a-kind filmmaker Bill Douglas, and in particular his love of early optical entertainments like the zoetrope and magic lantern. Through footage of the man himself as well as interviews with friends and collaborators, the film looks at how this passion for pre-cinema grew and became an integral part of his final film, Comrades.
Sean and Louise will be at Flatpack to introduce the film, and one of their interviewees Mike Simkin will also be here to present a bona fide magic lantern show after the screening.
